Educating in Peace and Justice: A Curriculum workshop

Professor George Lopez
Hesburgh Chair of Peace Studies
Joan B. Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies
University of Notre Dame

When: Thursday, February 14, 1-2.45pm & 3-4.45pm

Where: MSU Union Gold Room B

These two back to back workshops focus on curriculum and teaching, faculty research and teaching collaboration, obtaining outside grant and institutional support, cultivating interdisciplinarity, and developing and implementing specific courses and course ideas. Participants in the workshop are encouraged to bringsyllabi and other course materials, including specific ideas and problems. We will discuss:

  • How to integrate peace and justice themes into existing courses?
  • What makes a course a peace and justice studies course?
  • What role might students play in developing courses and the program?
  • What should a "core course" in peace and justice studies cover?
  • What are strategies for developing peace and justice themes in general education courses?
  • What would be a good capstone course?
  • Are there new uses of educational technology we should cultivate for our courses?
  • How might we involve graduate students in our course development and presentation?

All MSU faculty and students who are interested in these questions are invited to participate in the
workshop. Refreshments will be served.

No registration is required, but an initial expression of interest would be appreciated.

Please, email Dr. Richard Peterson, Chair of Philosophy and Director of the Peace and Justice Studies
